“I am unbelievably excited to be expecting my first baby in March, having experienced the ups and downs of pregnancy I finally feel like I am on the home straight and can’t wait to meet him! I have used some lovely skincare, body products and supplements over the past seven months and wanted to share some of my favourites with you, along with some skincare tips and advice for looking after your skin and body during pregnancy.
During your first trimester, hormones are running riot, and can cause extreme changes in your skin. I have of course been using Aurelia products all the way through my pregnancy, and in the first three months I really needed and benefitted from the balancing effect of the probiotics. My skin became quite dry and needed a bit more looking after so I increased my bedtime routine to include both our Cell Revitalise Night Moisturiser and Cell Repair Night Oil which would ordinarily be my winter routine!
Your skin may become more spot-prone, so make sure you are cleansing using a gentle but effective creamy product like our Miracle Cleanser. This will remove all impurities, make-up and excess oil without stripping the skin, and the probiotic and repair complex help to rebalance and soothe inflammation.
A full night’s sleep already seems like a distant memory as the long weeks of morning sickness kept me up, and, in later stages frequent loo visits and the worries of imminent labour have hindered my sleeping pattern – hence my eyes just need a serious dose of TLC! That’s where the Aurelia Eye Revitalising Duo has come in, with the cooling, brightening and firming effect of the Eye Dew in the morning and the amazing Illuminate & Smooth Puff-Reduction Eye Cream in the evening, the duo has really helped with any puffiness and dark circles giving the illusion of a well-rested complexion!
Some women can experience itchiness on their skin during their second trimester as their baby begins to grow much faster and the skin stretches, so it is important to keep the skin highly moisturised to soothe and hydrate, while helping to avoid stretch marks. I have been using Bloom & Blossom Anti Stretch Mark Oil in the evening and their Anti Stretch Mark Cream in the morning, and have noticed that my skin is very smooth and soft, with no stretch marks! Make sure to focus your anti stretch mark product on breasts, abdomen, hips, bum and thighs as it can be tempting just to rub it into the bump.
During the later stages of pregnancy relaxing in a bath becomes even more of a treat. Use Epsom salts – 2 large cups – to help soothe aching limbs, improve circulation, relieve stress and replenish your magnesium levels, to really help tackle the tiredness. I shall be continuing these when I have the baby and adding these to his baths. For fragrant and indulging baths add some of Neom’s Cocooning Bath Oil to the water. This oil comes as part of their lovely Cocooning Gift set for New & Soon to be Mums which really helps to relax me. To help disperse oil throughout the bathwater add the oil to an eggcup full of milk.
I have enlisted the help of a holistic Doula who is helping me prepare for the birth and has recommended a course of supplements and vitamins. I am taking Biocare Antenatal Bioflora (probiotics) which I alternate monthly with Mega 8 Probiotic and I also take Omega 7 – 3:6:7 & 9 (with seabuckthorn oil) as well as New Chapter Perfect Prenatal tablets and lastly a BetterYou DLux-1000 Vitamin D spray. I feel that this has kept me fighting fit and healthy.
Lastly, remember how important it is to drink lots of water; at least 2 litres a day for the full nine months!
Good luck to all those about to be new mums and I hope that some of my tips will help you glow throughout your pregnancy.”
